I'm all messed up because of the holiday on Monday. Here I was thinking I had another day to get some crafting accomplished before I had to post. ;-) I don't have much to share this week, but I'm rather excited about the one project that I DID accomplish. Drum roll please.....<br /><br /><br /><br />PRODUCE BAGS!!!! I know...doesn't take much to get me excited. But, as you may remember from one of my posts last month, plastic produce bags were really bothering me. <br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5491322544933769938" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TDUYwqXfEtI/AAAAAAAABBA/s4oXpgCe_54/s320/IMG_7482.JPG" /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TDUY3EHb4qI/AAAAAAAABBQ/WXE3vBxxHVs/s1600/IMG_7484.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5491322654924989090" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TDUY3EHb4qI/AAAAAAAABBQ/WXE3vBxxHVs/s320/IMG_7484.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TDUY0KA8loI/AAAAAAAABBI/p-fkeJyeulI/s1600/IMG_7483.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5491322604968777346" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TDUY0KA8loI/AAAAAAAABBI/p-fkeJyeulI/s320/IMG_7483.JPG" /></a>After looking at a bunch of different ideas, I kinda just <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">wung</span> it. I found this fabric that I had left over from making <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span> angel Halloween costume a couple years back. It was light-weight, see-through, and seems durable enough. So, I just sewed them into rectangles, added a casing for a drawstring, and voila. I haven't really used them yet. I just tried this one out with some apples I already had at home. I think they'll work well. The largest of these bags only weighs 0.4oz. I have a couple different sizes here - determined by what I had available for fabric. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">lol</span>...if these work well I'll definitely be buying some more of this fabric (if I can find it again) and making some more.</div><br /><p>So, that's it for this week. I would have had one other project to share with you, but I ran out of staples. Maybe next week.... ;-)</p>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-56264974045351122532010-07-01T15:35:00.003-04:002010-07-01T15:38:43.085-04:00Kids Crafts ThursdayI'm ashamed to admit that we have been so busy this week that we haven't done any kids crafts. But, I did want to share with you all the craft that I intended to do with the kids this week. I thought these would be super cute for the kids to bring to the 4th of July parade - Star Spangled Wavers! <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 260px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 260px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489024356498284434" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCzukfSMH5I/AAAAAAAABA4/SWVVIRoMUxs/s320/star-spangled-wavers-craft-photo-260-FF0603ALMBA02.jpg" />How fun! I'll have to put it on my list for next week I guess. This craft is on the Disney Family Fun website. You can find it <a href="http://familyfun.go.com/4th-of-july/4th-of-july-crafts/star-spangled-wavers-667138/">here</a>.<br /><div></div><br /><div>I hope you all have a fun, festive, and SAFE holiday weekend!</div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-66544952667321051022010-06-30T19:43:00.009-04:002010-06-30T20:27:41.656-04:00Whatcha Crafting WednesdayIts been a fairly decent crafting week for a change! I think I was having withdrawals!!! LOL...here are my creations from the past week:<br /><br />A birthday card for Ryleigh's friend, Jordan:<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvaIPw-1VI/AAAAAAAABAw/hnBsqUZJNfs/s1600/IMG_7370.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 298px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488720406086866258" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvaIPw-1VI/AAAAAAAABAw/hnBsqUZJNfs/s320/IMG_7370.JPG" /></a>I've already shared a couple of my sewing projects for the week. The first was a nightgown for Ryleigh. You can check out the tutorial I did <a href="http://craftingmotherhood-jenn.blogspot.com/2010/06/nightgown-tutorial.html">here</a>.<br />And then I turned a couple pair of Isaac's fall/winter pjs into summer pjs. You can see those <a href="http://craftingmotherhood-jenn.blogspot.com/2010/06/mommy-solutions-extending-life-of-pjs.html">here</a>.<br />I'm on a bit of repurposing/upcycling kick now, so after I finished Isaac's pjs I went hunting in my closet for some old things that I could spiff up a bit. Here's what I've come up with so far...<br /><br />I found this great <a href="http://thecottagehome.blogspot.com/2010/03/easy-sew-t-shirt-shrug-tutorial.html">tutorial</a> on how to turn an old t-shirt into a cute little shrug. Thought I'd give it a try. Here is the original garment - an old long-sleeve t-shirt that had gotten some holes in it right in the center where my shirt hits my pants. (Why do my shirts always do that????) <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZawhEm9I/AAAAAAAABAo/6thgTRQAjVs/s1600/IMG_7423.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488719624604523474" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZawhEm9I/AAAAAAAABAo/6thgTRQAjVs/s320/IMG_7423.JPG" /></a>Here are the little holes (does anyone else have this problem???)<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZR9EFb9I/AAAAAAAABAg/cKnrt1OFsKY/s1600/IMG_7424.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488719473353781202" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZR9EFb9I/AAAAAAAABAg/cKnrt1OFsKY/s320/IMG_7424.JPG" /></a>And here are is the shrug. Excuse the terribly blurry and bad pics of the finished product. I had to take these myself. lol<br /><div><div><div> </div><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZL3i1h-I/AAAAAAAABAY/M0IDA23BxPc/s1600/IMG_7428.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 198px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488719368792934370" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZL3i1h-I/AAAAAAAABAY/M0IDA23BxPc/s320/IMG_7428.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZByIHP4I/AAAAAAAABAQ/GOB-sorWHUs/s1600/IMG_7429.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488719195539980162" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvZByIHP4I/AAAAAAAABAQ/GOB-sorWHUs/s320/IMG_7429.JPG" /></a> I'm undecided on the white tie. I didn't have enough of the shirt leftover to do a matching tie, so I'm not sure what I want to do there. Still thinking about it. But, I like the shrug! I'll probably do a couple more! That got me more excited to do some more repurposing, so back to my closet I went. This time I came out with a plain white turtleneck - tags still attached. $1.99 find from Burlington Coat Factory. My MIL picked this up for me a couple years ago. I don't think I ever would have worn it the way it was - I didn't like the fit on me. To baggy and unflattering. So...I took the scissors to it.<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvY2ybz4dI/AAAAAAAABAI/v-nsQ_FMRR8/s1600/IMG_7430.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488719006644036050" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvY2ybz4dI/AAAAAAAABAI/v-nsQ_FMRR8/s320/IMG_7430.JPG" /></a>And here's what I got. I got the idea from another tutorial. You can find it <a href="http://www.alamodestuffblog.com/2009/07/diy-how-to-make-drawstring-halter.html">here</a>. <div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvYY1ZfxQI/AAAAAAAABAA/HZ86uSJYg5w/s1600/IMG_7431.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488718492043560194" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCvYY1ZfxQI/AAAAAAAABAA/HZ86uSJYg5w/s320/IMG_7431.JPG" /></a>Cute, huh?? Once again I was short on the amount of leftover fabric to make the tie. Its a little short, so I'm still thinking about a different solution for this one as well.<br /><br /><div>I'm really enjoying this repurposing thing. If anyone comes across any cute ideas, let me know!</div><div>I'm also still working on the same Swiffer sock that I was working on last week...haven't gotten much done on that one. </div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-30256814263046653272010-06-28T08:30:00.000-04:002010-06-28T08:30:00.993-04:00Mommy Solutions - Extending the Life of PJ'sPajamas are something that I really don't like spending money on. All the kids do is wear them to bed. But, I guess they are kind of necessary...so, I try to get as much use out of them as possible. Take these two pairs of Isaac's pajamas for example:<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd-LIzBBQI/AAAAAAAAA_4/blVo5srzBmM/s1600/IMG_7416.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487493400779359490" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd-LIzBBQI/AAAAAAAAA_4/blVo5srzBmM/s320/IMG_7416.JPG" /></a>They are both size 24 months. He wore them for 2 fall/winter seasons. Crazy, I know. But, he was a fat baby and has thinned out a lot. So, he can still wear the same clothes. Now the pants and sleeves on these are getting a little short. But, they are surprisingly in good shape and not stained. He's in need of some more summer pj's, so...I made them into summer pj's! I've done this with his pj's in the past. It is super easy! If you're working with knit pj's - which most pj's are (at least the ones that you'd want to use for summer pj's), then all you have to do is cut them into shorts/short-sleeve shirts. Because they are knit fabric, they will not fray or unravel in the wash. But, if you can sew, then you can make them look a little more professional if you'd like. <br /><br />The green dinosaur shirt was really easy because it was a faux double-layer shirt. All I had to do was cut the lighter green fabric off. The way it was sewn, it didn't affect the seam of the sleeves. So, I just trimmed it close to the seam and that was it - short sleeve shirt. Can't get much easier than that!<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd-Hm-7waI/AAAAAAAAA_w/ADiLUWSKAW0/s1600/IMG_7417.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487493340162933154" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd-Hm-7waI/AAAAAAAAA_w/ADiLUWSKAW0/s320/IMG_7417.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd-EN8L9pI/AAAAAAAAA_o/zVbQ6xm7iZI/s1600/IMG_7418.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487493281900918418" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd-EN8L9pI/AAAAAAAAA_o/zVbQ6xm7iZI/s320/IMG_7418.JPG" /></a> Then I had him try on the pants to determine how short I wanted to cut them. I allowed a little extra for hemming. Then I just cut them, folded up the raw edge and sewed it. You can't even tell that these were not made like that!<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd9_1yKdiI/AAAAAAAAA_g/4V8QMrtQ-14/s1600/IMG_7421.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487493206696949282" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd9_1yKdiI/AAAAAAAAA_g/4V8QMrtQ-14/s320/IMG_7421.JPG" /></a> For the second pair I had to hem the sleeves and the pants. I could have tried to match the thread with thread that was used on the original garment, but I didn't bother. I just used white. I still think they look pretty good and someone probably wouldn't guess that they had been altered. But, then again, who cares if they can tell???? They're just wearing them to bed!<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd98pMql6I/AAAAAAAAA_Y/Jl92kslhZXE/s1600/IMG_7422.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487493151778838434" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd98pMql6I/AAAAAAAAA_Y/Jl92kslhZXE/s320/IMG_7422.JPG" /></a> And there you have it - a quick fix to get one more season out of these pj's. I think I've gotten my money's worth on these!!! :)<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd94IaH7fI/AAAAAAAAA_Q/C_2lqeriS0M/s1600/IMG_7420.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487493074257440242" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCd94IaH7fI/AAAAAAAAA_Q/C_2lqeriS0M/s320/IMG_7420.JPG" /></a><br /><div>I've also made the shirts into tanks before as well. I took the trim from the cuffs of the sleeves or the pants and used it around the arm holes as trim for the tank. You could also use these tricks on regular clothes as well. Sweat pants to sweat shorts, t-shirts or long sleeve shirts to tanks. If you're a seamstress there are also some great repurposing or upcycling tutorials out there. I have several on my to-do list. I'll be sure to share them with you when I do! :)</div></div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-5070793481996696532010-06-27T08:54:00.032-04:002010-06-27T10:15:30.270-04:00Nightgown TutorialI found this adorable flannel-backed satin fabric at Jo-Ann's last winter in the clearance section. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it was cheap and adorable. So, I bought it with the intention of making <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh</span> a pair of pj's. I've made her some flannel-backed satin pj's before and she loves them. I never did get around to making them during the winter. Now that its summer, she really loves wearing nightgowns and could use some more. So, I dug this out and decided to make her one. I didn't have a pattern that I really thought would be appropriate. I wanted something simple, easy, and most of all - comfortable. I really like how easy pillowcase dresses look and how simple the design is. I've never made one before, but I thought it would be perfect for a nightgown. The only thing is - I didn't want to use a pillowcase. I wanted to use this super cute fabric I already had. So, I kinda just <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">wung</span> it. I took pictures along the way in case it came out well. And, I think it did - so I thought I'd share! :) Please note, this could easily be a summer dress as well if you switched up the fabric. <div><div><br /><div>Before trying this tutorial, please note that I am not a professional and never claimed to be. There may be easier or more professional ways to do some of these things. This is just how I went about getting the finished product you see here. :) Also - I <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">apologize</span> for the terrible lighting in these pics. </div><br /><div>The first thing I did was get some measurements. I measured <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span> chest - just below her armpits. She measured 23". I knew I'd want about double that and since my fabric was a 46" width it worked out perfectly. I then I measured about how long I wanted it. I measured from just under her armpits to where I wanted it to fall on her legs. Then you're going to want to add about 2" to that measurement to allow for making an elastic casing and hem.</div><br /><div>Now that you have your measurements, take your fabric, fold it in half with right sides together. If you have a directional print like I do, make sure you figure out top/bottom, etc before cutting. Cut out the size pieces you need. For <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh</span>, I needed 2 - 23"x25" pieces.<br /></div><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdL32McQXI/AAAAAAAAA-w/88DmF6BagPg/s1600/IMG_7371.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487438093786825074" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdL32McQXI/AAAAAAAAA-w/88DmF6BagPg/s320/IMG_7371.JPG" /></a> With right sides still together, sew a 5/8" seam down each long side.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLyErghvI/AAAAAAAAA-o/H3dBuqhPAAg/s1600/IMG_7374.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437994596009714" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLyErghvI/AAAAAAAAA-o/H3dBuqhPAAg/s320/IMG_7374.JPG" /></a> You should then have basically a tube - or a pillowcase with no bottom.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLtHvxYXI/AAAAAAAAA-g/K59XlU9tZig/s1600/IMG_7375.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437909519851890" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLtHvxYXI/AAAAAAAAA-g/K59XlU9tZig/s320/IMG_7375.JPG" /></a>This step is totally optional, but I like to finish my seams to give the item a more finished look. Serge the seams you just made. Some people may choose to just serge the seam and skip the step of sewing the seam first. I don't know why, but I don't like to do it that way. I guess I like to make more work for myself and do it in two steps. ;-)<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLoWwgTjI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/C3QOTf_iBb4/s1600/IMG_7376.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437827650113074" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLoWwgTjI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/C3QOTf_iBb4/s320/IMG_7376.JPG" /></a>Press the seam to one side.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLiYlZ1vI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/eQslmSKqWSg/s1600/IMG_7378.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437725061207794" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLiYlZ1vI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/eQslmSKqWSg/s320/IMG_7378.JPG" /></a> On the outside, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">top=stitch</span> close to the seam, making sure you catch the seam on the underside.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLchkCFNI/AAAAAAAAA-I/MbtXD_w9bKU/s1600/IMG_7379.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437624392160466" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLchkCFNI/AAAAAAAAA-I/MbtXD_w9bKU/s320/IMG_7379.JPG" /></a> This will tack the seam down so it isn't bothersome to the person wearing the garment. It also gives a more professional look. This is what it looks like on the outside:<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLZZl-dyI/AAAAAAAAA-A/hYfQLzeHapI/s1600/IMG_7380.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437570713220898" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLZZl-dyI/AAAAAAAAA-A/hYfQLzeHapI/s320/IMG_7380.JPG" /></a>And on the inside:<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLWCAUAJI/AAAAAAAAA94/QgQZ5DXDq1Y/s1600/IMG_7381.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437512841625746" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLWCAUAJI/AAAAAAAAA94/QgQZ5DXDq1Y/s320/IMG_7381.JPG" /></a> Next, serge the top edge of the dress/nightgown. Again, this is an optional step. If you'd rather just fold it under, you can. But I prefer to do it this way because it makes it gives you a nice, even, and clean line that's easy to work with.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLR3foiYI/AAAAAAAAA9w/8ykEO_0EnuQ/s1600/IMG_7383.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437441300728194" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLR3foiYI/AAAAAAAAA9w/8ykEO_0EnuQ/s320/IMG_7383.JPG" /></a> Fold down about 1" from the top, then fold under the bottom edge - just to where the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">serging</span> stops. Press. Please note: These measurements are to make a casing for 1/2" elastic. You will need to adjust your measurements for a different elastic width.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437380147141714" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLOTre3FI/AAAAAAAAA9o/m9gQVOXS5RU/s320/IMG_7384.JPG" /> Stitch close to the edge leaving an inch or two <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">unstitched</span> so you can insert the elastic.<br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487445195036597874" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdSVMaUnnI/AAAAAAAAA-4/Rqu4kX5zzJ4/s320/IMG_7385.JPG" /></div><div>You now have an elastic casing. </div><div> </div><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487446158580991074" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdTNR5NRGI/AAAAAAAAA_I/ky3mVWt-odU/s320/IMG_7386.JPG" />Cut a piece of elastic as long as the chest measurement you got. Mine is 23". Put a safety pin on one end of the elastic and thread it through the hole you left in the casing.</div><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487446084434570370" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdTI9rUrII/AAAAAAAAA_A/W6so4mlE3vs/s320/IMG_7387.JPG" />Once you have threaded the elastic all the way through, sew the ends of the elastic together being sure to go back and forth over it several times. <br /><div> </div><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLLKilgPI/AAAAAAAAA9g/s7-Dxnb7RHc/s1600/IMG_7388.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437326154301682" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLLKilgPI/AAAAAAAAA9g/s7-Dxnb7RHc/s320/IMG_7388.JPG" /></a> Distribute the fullness of the garment evenly and then close up the hole you left in the casing. You may wish to sew through the elastic right at the side seams to keep the elastic from twisting.<br />This is what you should have now:<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLG2ubj-I/AAAAAAAAA9Y/gI2WHAk4bXw/s1600/IMG_7390.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437252115795938" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLG2ubj-I/AAAAAAAAA9Y/gI2WHAk4bXw/s320/IMG_7390.JPG" /></a>Moving on to the straps. You will need to do some more measuring here. Put the nightgown on the child and then measure from the bottom of the casing on the back, over the shoulder, and to the bottom of the casing on the front. I got a measurement of 10". Then decide how wide you want your straps. I wanted a finished strap width of 1.5". Double that and add 1" for the seam. So, I need two pieces of fabric that measure 4"x10". <br /><div> </div><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLA_w-mwI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/44hqGem4Upk/s1600/IMG_7394.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437151463185154" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdLA_w-mwI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/44hqGem4Upk/s320/IMG_7394.JPG" /></a>I wanted to add a little trim to my straps. I had this trim in my stash that was nice and soft and light-weight, perfect for this project! So, I cut 2- 10" long pieces. Then I placed the trim on top of my strap piece with raw edges even. <br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdK7tluzFI/AAAAAAAAA9I/lVYpF8LaE0g/s1600/IMG_7395.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487437060684827730" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdK7tluzFI/AAAAAAAAA9I/lVYpF8LaE0g/s320/IMG_7395.JPG" /></a> Then I folded the strap piece in half with right sides together and the trim sandwiched in between.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdK3PNjxsI/AAAAAAAAA9A/syQuZtnYZPM/s1600/IMG_7396.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436983810901698" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdK3PNjxsI/AAAAAAAAA9A/syQuZtnYZPM/s320/IMG_7396.JPG" /></a> Stitch a 1/2" seam and then turn right side out. This is what you should have:<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKzCW2TlI/AAAAAAAAA84/tXeReA-wxUw/s1600/IMG_7397.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436911640727122" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKzCW2TlI/AAAAAAAAA84/tXeReA-wxUw/s320/IMG_7397.JPG" /></a> Top-stitch close to each edge. Then serge the short ends.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKutGWeZI/AAAAAAAAA8w/Umh5d_UO4gs/s1600/IMG_7398.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436837214910866" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKutGWeZI/AAAAAAAAA8w/Umh5d_UO4gs/s320/IMG_7398.JPG" /></a> Now you'll want to have the child put the dress back on and determine the best placement for the straps. Then stitch the straps on - once close to the bottom of the strap and then again close to the top edge of the nightgown. Here it is:<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKp_43KdI/AAAAAAAAA8o/jSgL6IAbGvg/s1600/IMG_7400.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436756359260626" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKp_43KdI/AAAAAAAAA8o/jSgL6IAbGvg/s320/IMG_7400.JPG" /></a> And a view of the inside stitching of the strap:<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKkatq5hI/AAAAAAAAA8g/fsttbBzXTks/s1600/IMG_7401.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436660480861714" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKkatq5hI/AAAAAAAAA8g/fsttbBzXTks/s320/IMG_7401.JPG" /></a>Now you could just hem the bottom and be done! I decided I wanted to add a little of the trim I used on the straps to the bottom of the gown. So, measured the bottom of the gown, added 1/2" to the measurement and cut two pieces of the trim this size.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKfSMuBYI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/mAXyC9xyJRM/s1600/IMG_7403.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436572295824770" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKfSMuBYI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/mAXyC9xyJRM/s320/IMG_7403.JPG" /></a> I layered the two pieces of trim on top of each other and stitched them together.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKb7V5tCI/AAAAAAAAA8Q/TfBKutIJ60M/s1600/IMG_7405.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436514620716066" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKb7V5tCI/AAAAAAAAA8Q/TfBKutIJ60M/s320/IMG_7405.JPG" /></a>Then stitch the two short ends together with right sides together and a 1/4" seam. Serge for a finished seam.</div><div>Now with right sides together, raw edges even, and the trim seam lined up with one of the side seams on the gown, stitch the trim to the bottom of the gown.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKV-nZaWI/AAAAAAAAA8I/zDEoN6pemhI/s1600/IMG_7406.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436412420188514" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKV-nZaWI/AAAAAAAAA8I/zDEoN6pemhI/s320/IMG_7406.JPG" /></a> Serge the seam.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKROwLscI/AAAAAAAAA8A/1TKwsMI-teU/s1600/IMG_7407.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436330852659650" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKROwLscI/AAAAAAAAA8A/1TKwsMI-teU/s320/IMG_7407.JPG" /></a> Press the seam towards the trim.<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKLI8C35I/AAAAAAAAA74/W_bTGsDAO34/s1600/IMG_7408.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487436226212585362" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCdKLI8C35I/AAAAAAAAA74/W_bTGsDAO34/s320/IMG_7408.JPG" /></a> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">Top-stitch</span> close to the seam. I came up with the idea for this craft on my own. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'm not the first person to make a flag like this, but I didn't find the specific idea for this craft anywhere...just in my own head. :) <br />Here is what you will need:<br />-Red ,White, and Blue <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">card stock</span> or construction paper<br />-Star stickers<br />-Scissors or paper cutter<br />-Glue<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRJOou0HI/AAAAAAAAA6A/BRP4jJsgN8Y/s1600/IMG_7339.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485966146336116850" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRJOou0HI/AAAAAAAAA6A/BRP4jJsgN8Y/s320/IMG_7339.JPG" /></a> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pre</span>-Project Prep:<br />-I used <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">scrapbooking</span> paper for this project so the flags would be a little sturdier. But, you could also use construction paper. If you do this, you'll need to adjust your measurements to fit the size of the construction paper. <br />-Take a piece of white 12x12 <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">card stock</span> and cut it down to 9x12. <br />-Take a piece of navy blue <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">card stock</span> (any size) and cut it to 4x6. Note: You'll see I have 2 here, but that's only because I'm making 2 flags. :)<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRGpiVyGI/AAAAAAAAA54/qNi5TQRC2Jo/s1600/IMG_7340.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485966102017460322" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRGpiVyGI/AAAAAAAAA54/qNi5TQRC2Jo/s320/IMG_7340.JPG" /></a> -Take a piece of red <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">card stock</span> and cut 6 1x12 strips. Then cut 3 of them down to 1x6. Note: I did not take the time to try to figure out measurements to make the right amount of stripes. So, if you'd like an accurate flag, ignore these measurements completely. :)<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRDhj4wyI/AAAAAAAAA5w/mxidCJIiYgQ/s1600/IMG_7341.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485966048336855842" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRDhj4wyI/AAAAAAAAA5w/mxidCJIiYgQ/s320/IMG_7341.JPG" /></a> Time to make some flags!!!</div><div>1. Have the child(<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">ren</span>) glue the blue piece of paper in the upper left hand corner of the white piece.<br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965951248954146" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQ934U8yI/AAAAAAAAA5g/CyBD_9sKuYY/s320/IMG_7342.JPG" /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRBB7rmhI/AAAAAAAAA5o/-iwLEKYe3Wo/s1600/IMG_7343.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485966005486983698" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIRBB7rmhI/AAAAAAAAA5o/-iwLEKYe3Wo/s320/IMG_7343.JPG" /></a> 2. Have them glue the red stripes on. Start at the very bottom and then work your way up. We just kind of eye-balled where to put the next red stripe, but if you wanted to be more accurate and even, you could measure it out beforehand.<br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQ6DkrEmI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/NGo4xwgXWLo/s1600/IMG_7344.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965885668266594" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQ6DkrEmI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/NGo4xwgXWLo/s320/IMG_7344.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQ29Avl7I/AAAAAAAAA5Q/kEjPe_rsgRU/s1600/IMG_7346.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965832367347634" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQ29Avl7I/AAAAAAAAA5Q/kEjPe_rsgRU/s320/IMG_7346.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQysu6PkI/AAAAAAAAA5I/FAnf6qIA2qA/s1600/IMG_7347.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965759278104130" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQysu6PkI/AAAAAAAAA5I/FAnf6qIA2qA/s320/IMG_7347.JPG" /></a> 3. Once all the stripes are glued on, take some star stickers and put them on the blue piece. Once again...with a 2 year old and a 4 year old, I wasn't going for <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">accuracy</span>, so no, we do not have the correct number of stars or the correct placement of stars. We'll save that lesson for another day. ;-)<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQseq7NqI/AAAAAAAAA5A/GOBAxiOYLj8/s1600/IMG_7357.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965652424079010" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQseq7NqI/AAAAAAAAA5A/GOBAxiOYLj8/s320/IMG_7357.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQpFBgN_I/AAAAAAAAA44/6r31oXoLgT4/s1600/IMG_7358.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965593999849458" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQpFBgN_I/AAAAAAAAA44/6r31oXoLgT4/s320/IMG_7358.JPG" /></a> Ta-<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">Da</span>! </div><div>Isaac's Flag:<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQkFDCl3I/AAAAAAAAA4w/jSquEtkkG8Y/s1600/IMG_7359.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965508106950514" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQkFDCl3I/AAAAAAAAA4w/jSquEtkkG8Y/s320/IMG_7359.JPG" /></a> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span> Flag:<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQhHiNx7I/AAAAAAAAA4o/YjMMLFzEG3Q/s1600/IMG_7360.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485965457234970546" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCIQhHiNx7I/AAAAAAAAA4o/YjMMLFzEG3Q/s320/IMG_7360.JPG" /></a></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><br /><p>Project Review:</p><p>Both of my kids enjoyed this project. That's because I was running out of time and didn't really have the time to come up with another design. And, no, this second one does not have a spelling error. One of my grandfathers has always been known as 'Grumpy' to us kids. :)</div><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 247px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485938549887509346" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCH4C52qo2I/AAAAAAAAA4Y/XPGZzjvyUiE/s320/IMG_7336.JPG" /></div></div><div>I also made one other Father's Day card for Josh's dad, again, due to lack of time, I totally forgot to take a pic of it. As soon as it was done I made an envelope, sealed it up, and threw it in the mailbox. I intended on making a card for Josh as well, but I ran out of time. I really need to start making cards for Mother's Day and Father's Day a lot sooner than the week before! You'd think I would have learned that after Mother's Day!</div><div>The final card I have to share today is a Housewarming card for my Uncle Chris. </div><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 305px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485938601235955890" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TCH4F5JFwLI/AAAAAAAAA4g/IDkY3SK06Wc/s320/IMG_7338.JPG" /><br />Unfortunately with the lovely weather and with my Tastefully Simple business, I haven't had as much crafting time. But, this past week I did do a few repairs - fixed a strap on one of <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span> barbie doll dresses, fixed a strap on a pair of her dress-up ballet shoes, and fixed one of her bathing suit tops. I also have another <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Swiffer</span> sock on my hook, and am in the middle of making a cute Hawaiian themed birthday card for <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span> friend's birthday party this weekend. My next sewing project is going to be a nightgown for <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh</span> and then something else for ME. :) Anybody else getting any crafting done this summer???</div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-69080704385041206062010-06-17T08:30:00.000-04:002010-06-17T08:30:00.525-04:00Kids Crafts Thursday - Father's Day Tool Box CardHere's a cute idea for Father's Day card for the handy-man type Dad. And, once again, I've got a lot of cards to make! I intended on spreading these out over a few weeks, but apparently I'm a crafting procrastinator. On my list for this week was: 5 Father's Day cards, 1 Birthday card, and 1 Housewarming card. So far I've only gotten 3 done. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">eeek</span>! And, can I just say that I'm having a really hard time making cards for men?!?!? Why is it so much harder??? I've decided that simple is the way to go for men's cards. Here's what I've come up with so far:<br /><div><br /><div></div><div>Birthday Card for my brother, Dave.</div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 312px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483394824803692002" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBjuinejreI/AAAAAAAAA2Q/2oL8sD2zfEo/s320/IMG_7305.JPG" /> For Dad:</div><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483395173730287234" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBju27VI_oI/AAAAAAAAA2Y/o6q4_n27_WE/s320/IMG_7326.JPG" />For my Step-Dad:</div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483395347846299266" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBjvBD9ofoI/AAAAAAAAA2g/LGUaXe584Hs/s320/IMG_7328.JPG" /><br /><div>I've still got to make cards for Josh, Josh's dad, and my <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Gramp</span>. And then a housewarming card for my Uncle's Housewarming party this weekend. I better get busy!!!</div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-51042832654195725732010-06-11T08:26:00.031-04:002010-06-11T08:56:36.957-04:00Friday - The Week in Photos - Or 2 Weeks in PhotosMonday May 31st, 2010<br />Photos by Ryleigh:<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBIxoid_rQI/AAAAAAAAA2I/ttDay5j70Aw/s1600/May31st(1).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481498268980456706" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBIxoid_rQI/AAAAAAAAA2I/ttDay5j70Aw/s320/May31st(1).jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBIxkz2DgyI/AAAAAAAAA2A/Rx8dXalh9rw/s1600/May31st(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481498204925297442" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBIxkz2DgyI/AAAAAAAAA2A/Rx8dXalh9rw/s320/May31st(2).jpg" /></a><br />Tuesday June 1st, 2010</div><div>L.L. But, I sort of remembered a caterpillar craft in it. So, I kinda just made up my own version. I'm sure theirs is better, but here's mine. :) <br />Here is what you will need:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCgbyfZeI/AAAAAAAAAyg/-1IxqIOA3wM/s1600/IMG_7287.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305715213559266" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCgbyfZeI/AAAAAAAAAyg/-1IxqIOA3wM/s320/IMG_7287.JPG" /></a> -3 paper plates<br />-Paint and Paintbrushes<br />-Hole Punch<br />-Scissors<br />-Stapler<br />-Glue<br />-Googly Eyes (optional)<br />-3 Pipe Cleaners<br /><br /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pre</span>-Project Prep:<br />-As always, gather all your supplies, line your table with newspaper, and put smocks on your kids.<br />-Punch 2 holes in each plate about 1/4" from the edge and about 2" apart.<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCd58TOgI/AAAAAAAAAyY/OQcVpWO7cnA/s1600/IMG_7288.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305671768160770" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCd58TOgI/AAAAAAAAAyY/OQcVpWO7cnA/s320/IMG_7288.JPG" /></a><br />Get the kids and lets make some <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">caterpillars</span>!<br />1. Give the children the 3 plates and explain to them that one of them will be the caterpillar's head and the other 2 will be its body. Then let them paint them as desired.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCbRr9x8I/AAAAAAAAAyQ/jZQ5Woa4UL0/s1600/IMG_7289.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305626602489794" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCbRr9x8I/AAAAAAAAAyQ/jZQ5Woa4UL0/s320/IMG_7289.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCY4jRN_I/AAAAAAAAAyI/mwfzBFC84qg/s1600/IMG_7290.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305585495390194" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCY4jRN_I/AAAAAAAAAyI/mwfzBFC84qg/s320/IMG_7290.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCWGAM7zI/AAAAAAAAAyA/m7LdiiJ7Gw8/s1600/IMG_7291.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305537566797618" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCWGAM7zI/AAAAAAAAAyA/m7LdiiJ7Gw8/s320/IMG_7291.JPG" /></a> 2. Once all pieces are painted, determine which one will be the head and then with the 2 holes on the TOP, add a face to it. We used googly eyes and painted mouths, but you could do this with just paint, markers, pieces of paper glued on for the eyes/mouth, pom poms, or whatever you have on hand.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCRPl1VsI/AAAAAAAAAx4/8zBJiQt3Wrs/s1600/IMG_7294.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305454241208002" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCRPl1VsI/AAAAAAAAAx4/8zBJiQt3Wrs/s320/IMG_7294.JPG" /></a> 3. Decide which piece will go in the center, and then staple it to the head with the holes on the BOTTOM. Then, staple the last piece to the second piece...again with the holes on the BOTTOM.</div><div>4. Cut 1 pipe cleaner in half and then put it through the holes on the top of the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">caterpillars</span> head. Fasten it by twisting the pipe cleaner around itself.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCI3G7jtI/AAAAAAAAAxo/YYG_MUZOXuA/s1600/IMG_7295.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305310230187730" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCI3G7jtI/AAAAAAAAAxo/YYG_MUZOXuA/s320/IMG_7295.JPG" /></a> 5. Cut the other two pipe cleaners and half and do the same thing, but these will go in the bottom holes as the caterpillars legs.</div><div>And you have a beautiful caterpillar...or two...</div><div><br />Isaac's: </div><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCE9lvbsI/AAAAAAAAAxg/fb8voY3_oG4/s1600/IMG_7296.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305243250552514" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCE9lvbsI/AAAAAAAAAxg/fb8voY3_oG4/s320/IMG_7296.JPG" /></a> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span>:<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCBQ_baxI/AAAAAAAAAxY/x7heQvuc1ao/s1600/IMG_7297.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481305179739089682" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBGCBQ_baxI/AAAAAAAAAxY/x7heQvuc1ao/s320/IMG_7297.JPG" /></a> Project Review: Isaac wasn't into crafting when we did this project (if you can imagine THAT!). <br />So, I ended up doing most of it for him. As you can probably tell by the tail end of his caterpillar. Painting 3 whole paper plates is just too much for him. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh</span> really enjoyed it, however. Overall, I would recommend this project. Just because Isaac didn't do all that great with it, doesn't mean all 2.5 year <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">olds</span> won't. I could totally see <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh</span> doing this when she was Isaac's age. I think I just need to accept that Isaac is not a 'crafty' child. Next time I do this project, I would probably use a smaller size paper plate for the head...just to make it more <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">aesthetically</span> pleasing.</div></div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-73131983200490239102010-06-09T16:51:00.009-04:002010-06-09T18:20:36.948-04:00Whatcha Crafting WednesdayI'm happy to say that I actually got a few things done recently! Of course...this is really 2 weeks worth of stuff since I didn't post last week, but oh well...<br /><br />First off...I finally finished the summer dress that I've been wanting to make for myself! <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Yay</span>! Here it is:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAP-LtFrkI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/jJFBS_Mvh5Q/s1600/IMG_7281.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 170px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480898307478105666" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAP-LtFrkI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/jJFBS_Mvh5Q/s320/IMG_7281.JPG" /></a> excuse my bra strap hanging out in this pic:<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAP5wdMW6I/AAAAAAAAAxI/GHqyRfpDDU4/s1600/IMG_7283.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 161px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480898231444200354" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAP5wdMW6I/AAAAAAAAAxI/GHqyRfpDDU4/s320/IMG_7283.JPG" /></a> This was made using <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5021-misses-dresses.aspx">Simplicity pattern #2421</a> and Amy <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Buttler</span> fabric (Midwest Modern <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">fuschia</span> martini dot for those fabric geeks like me). The pattern was very easy, the fit is good, and I think I'm really going to like this dress on hot summer days. It's nice and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">flow-y</span>, doesn't cling, and isn't at all restricting. <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5021-misses-dresses.aspx"><br /></a></div><div>I also finally made myself some <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">swiffer</span> socks and I'm in LOVE! These things are AWESOME! I got the pattern off the <a href="http://www.craftstylish.com/"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">CraftStylish</span></a> website. Click <a href="http://www.craftstylish.com/item/44816/how-to-make-a-reversible-swiffer-sock">here</a> for the pattern. This was another easy and quick project. I've made 2 of these so far and I have a third one on the hook. </div><div><br /> </div><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAP0rHiQxI/AAAAAAAAAxA/llCbNfoM2-I/s1600/IMG_7244.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 258px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480898144111837970" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAP0rHiQxI/AAAAAAAAAxA/llCbNfoM2-I/s320/IMG_7244.JPG" /></a><br /><br />Here is the sweeper side:<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPxBhTwCI/AAAAAAAAAw4/UazbxZKSyB8/s1600/IMG_7245.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 253px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480898081406042146" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPxBhTwCI/AAAAAAAAAw4/UazbxZKSyB8/s320/IMG_7245.JPG" /></a><br />Then you can turn it inside out and use this side to mop. All I did was wet the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">swiffer</span> sock, wring it out, put it on the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">swiffer</span> and mopped. <br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPtSInuzI/AAAAAAAAAww/b_b3GimXZHk/s1600/IMG_7247.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 243px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480898017146420018" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPtSInuzI/AAAAAAAAAww/b_b3GimXZHk/s320/IMG_7247.JPG" /></a><br />Gross Alert! And just to show that this thing really works...I put it to the ultimate test and swept under my couch with it. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">ewwww</span>...<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPpjg8q7I/AAAAAAAAAwo/zM8muTVflAc/s1600/IMG_7248.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480897953092381618" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPpjg8q7I/AAAAAAAAAwo/zM8muTVflAc/s320/IMG_7248.JPG" /></a> I love these things on both the sweeper side and the mopping side. They work awesome and I will never buy another <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">swiffer</span> cloth as long as I live! I haven't bought any in a long time anyway...I was using a microfiber cloth with it. But, I couldn't mop with it that way. So, I'm super happy about these things! Another great thing about these is that they're cheap to make as well! The pattern actually recommends acrylic yarn. So, one skein of Red Heart will give you several <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">swiffer</span> socks. I have a ton of yarn, so I chose to do mine in all different colors...ya know...spice up the cleaning a little bit. ;-)<br /><br /><br />My final project to share this week is a little birthday card made for my cousin's little girl. Happy 6<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-error">th</span> birthday, Emma!<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPipRgrqI/AAAAAAAAAwg/BCuA-pzWehs/s1600/IMG_7254.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 310px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480897834379161250" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/TBAPipRgrqI/AAAAAAAAAwg/BCuA-pzWehs/s320/IMG_7254.JPG" /></a></div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-62303177563167912952010-06-07T07:33:00.002-04:002010-06-07T07:48:39.418-04:00Monday Mommyhood Madness - SchedulesHello again blog readers! No, I haven't abandoned my blog...I just took a little blog vacation. Josh was on vacation last week, and lets just say that our schedule was totally thrown out the window. Add to that a crazy stressful week for me with worrying about and preparing for running my first 5K and doing my first Tastefully Simple party, and I didn't get anything accomplished! Its not until I have weeks like this that I realize how much I rely on our 'schedule'. Without my schedule last week, none of the cleaning got done, I only ran twice (and one of those times was in the actual race), didn't workout at all except for those 2 runs, didn't blog, my diet was non-existent, and the kids stayed up late almost every night. Now don't get me wrong - it was so nice to have Josh home for the week. I'm sure I would have totally lost my mind if I had to deal with the kids by myself and try to cope with the stress I was dealing with. Plus, its always nice to take a little break from the 'norm' and shake things up a bit. But, I must say that I'm looking forward to getting back to our regularly scheduled program. :) Whatever that may be because I'm also dealing with the change in schedule of not having <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">pre</span>-school or cheering any more. But, the cleaning will be done, and hopefully my diet and workout schedule will get back on track! So, here's to appreciating vacations AND returning to reality! Have a great week everyone!Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-52227828563471531812010-05-28T08:30:00.002-04:002010-05-28T08:30:02.381-04:00The Week in Photos - 5/21/10 - 5/27/10Sunday May 23rd, 2010<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6qHl12bkI/AAAAAAAAAwI/wZqARh723Dw/s1600/May23rd(1).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476001244322885186" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6qHl12bkI/AAAAAAAAAwI/wZqARh723Dw/s320/May23rd(1).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6qBUWxucI/AAAAAAAAAwA/xV9JmhdEfDw/s1600/May23rd(3).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476001136549935554" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6qBUWxucI/AAAAAAAAAwA/xV9JmhdEfDw/s320/May23rd(3).jpg" /></a> Monday May 24th, 2010</div><br /><br /><div>Train Day at the Library<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6p7-yHfcI/AAAAAAAAAv4/6UNAEp2lyWA/s1600/May24th(1).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476001044859682242" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6p7-yHfcI/AAAAAAAAAv4/6UNAEp2lyWA/s320/May24th(1).jpg" /></a> Check out the girl in the background. lol<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pxYyTLyI/AAAAAAAAAvo/cqWBB24CvEA/s1600/May24th(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000862861209378" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pxYyTLyI/AAAAAAAAAvo/cqWBB24CvEA/s320/May24th(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pljguN6I/AAAAAAAAAvY/deXFCEp8Ono/s1600/May24th(3).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000659581843362" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pljguN6I/AAAAAAAAAvY/deXFCEp8Ono/s320/May24th(3).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6ph6KWmPI/AAAAAAAAAvQ/umWfcZAJ1DA/s1600/May24th(4).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000596942559474" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6ph6KWmPI/AAAAAAAAAvQ/umWfcZAJ1DA/s320/May24th(4).jpg" /></a> Tuesday May 25th, 2010<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pZ2ru_iI/AAAAAAAAAvI/j53VIb35WKk/s1600/IMG_7204resize.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000458569874978" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pZ2ru_iI/AAAAAAAAAvI/j53VIb35WKk/s320/IMG_7204resize.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pRrNGJ-I/AAAAAAAAAvA/hmPTy7wFWGE/s1600/IMG_7206resize.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000318049626082" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pRrNGJ-I/AAAAAAAAAvA/hmPTy7wFWGE/s320/IMG_7206resize.jpg" /></a> Wednesday May 26th, 2010<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pLc364PI/AAAAAAAAAu4/AzGGq7gVZ60/s1600/May26th(1).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000211123495154" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pLc364PI/AAAAAAAAAu4/AzGGq7gVZ60/s320/May26th(1).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pGnA2WNI/AAAAAAAAAuw/9J2_oYeGOC8/s1600/May26th(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476000127945955538" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6pGnA2WNI/AAAAAAAAAuw/9J2_oYeGOC8/s320/May26th(2).jpg" /></a> Ryleigh took one look at this cloud and said she thought it looked like a poodle. There are lots of great craft ideas in this book! I would <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">recommend</span> it. We did two different dinosaurs. Here is what you will need for both:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6V1GYXhUI/AAAAAAAAAsI/TE_Qm3vN8Ko/s1600/IMG_7208.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475978936407524674" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_6V1GYXhUI/AAAAAAAAAsI/TE_Qm3vN8Ko/s320/IMG_7208.JPG" /></a><br />-paper plates<br />-paint<br />-paintbrushes<br />-marker(s)<br />-scissors<br />-glue<br />-stapler<br /><br /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pre</span>-Project Prep:<br />-Gather up all your supplies and cover up your table with newspaper and your child(<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">ren</span>) with smocks.<br />-Cut out your dinosaur shapes. For Isaac's dinosaur, I folded the paper plate in half and then cut out a dinosaur shape with the fold being the dinosaurs back (see pics below). Then I cut out a horn for its head and at the last minute decided to make some spikes for its back. For <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh's</span><br /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">dino</span> I folded one paper plate up on each side, leaving a flat part on the bottom. It was easy, quick, and fun. It was quick enough and easy enough that Isaac didn't get bored or distracted, but still fun enough that <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ryleigh</span> really enjoyed it. As you can see, she had fun decorating her dinosaur. I would recommend this project and will probably be doing more from the same book.</div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-15831178940937635272010-05-26T07:36:00.002-04:002010-05-26T07:38:10.204-04:00Whatcha Crafting WednesdayJust a quick note to let everyone know that my crafting took a back seat over the past week. I didn't accomplish much at all! I started cutting out the summer dress that I want to make for myself, but that's about it. Sorry to those who look forward to the crafting posts. I'll try to do better over the coming week! :)Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-22722319381388396102010-05-24T20:03:00.003-04:002010-05-24T20:27:32.636-04:00Monday Mommyhood Madness - Produce BagsYou know what always drives me nuts? Every time I enter the grocery store, I bring along my reusable shopping bags (OF COURSE!) and then what's the first thing I do? Well...I enter the produce section and proceed to use like 5 plastic bags to put each different produce item in. Kinda doesn't make sense, right??? I don't WANT to use plastic...period. So, I've been on the hunt for the best kind of reusable produce bag. Should I sew some with a light-weight mesh fabric? Knit some? Crochet some? If I knit/crochet them, what's the best and most light-weight yarn choice? I don't know what the best option is...and I'd love to ask around, but I have NEVER seen anyone use a reusable produce bag in a store. And that's another thing I'm wondering about...when I go to put my apples on the counter in a fabric or yarn bag, are the cashiers and baggers going to look at me like I'm totally nuts??? I suppose I don't really care if they think I'm nuts...I'd just rather not have to explain my 'bag' habits to everyone I see. I would really like to hear some other thoughts on this topic. Here are some tutorials or patterns that I've found in my search for the best way to make reusable produce bags.<br /><br />-Here's a tutorial by <a href="http://thesproutzstore.blogspot.com/2009/06/reusable-produce-bags-tutorial.html">The Sproutz Store</a>. These are made using tulle. I'm not sure tulle is the best option...sure, its light-weight, but it doesn't seem like it would be very durable. Although, I like the design...so, I might try to find a better fabric option and use this tutorial.<br />-Here's a tutorial by <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2010/04/crocheted-produce-bag.html">Oh the Cutness!</a> for a crocheted produce bag. I really like the looks of this one, but I'm wondering about how big the holes are...and if the yarn would be too stretchy. I don't want my beautiful produce falling through the holes!<br />-Here are some muslin bags that are for sale at <a href="http://www.colonialpatterns.com/product_info.php?products_id=1120">Colonial Patterns, Inc.</a>. I like how they look very streamlined and clean...but, don't the cashiers need to see the little stickers on the produce??? Not really sure I want people having to open up my bags and paw through them.<br />-Here's a nice looking knitting pattern by <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/37956443/pdf-knitting-patternreusable-produce-bag">Fickle Knitter</a> Design. Again, this is a very nice looking bag, but if you read through the description, it says the bag weighs 1.25oz and to ask the cashier to subract the weight of the bag from the total weight of the produce. Ummm...yeah, NO. Dragging 2 kids through a grocery store is enough of a task without having to end the adventure trying to explain things like this to 15 year old cashier. I need something lighter...<br /><br />So, you see my dilemma....I'd love to hear your thoughts and/or experiences!!!<br />And my next issue is what to do about the baggers wrapping my meat in plastic bags. They always look at me like I'm totally crazy if I ask them not to wrap the meat. ????Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-45145482860321021112010-05-21T18:30:00.026-04:002010-05-21T20:01:57.072-04:00The Week in Photos - 5/15/10 - 5/20/10Sunday May 16th, 2010<br />I believe this is 3 weeks post-planting<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_cc4f90ljI/AAAAAAAAAqE/fKAUSgV837c/s1600/IMG_7137.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875629071177266" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_cc4f90ljI/AAAAAAAAAqE/fKAUSgV837c/s320/IMG_7137.JPG" /></a> Monday May 17th, 2010<br />Play date at the Warren's house<br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875531413518738" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccy0Ka-ZI/AAAAAAAAAp8/9eRJhicGZ8w/s320/May17th(2).jpg" /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_cctuA6MAI/AAAAAAAAAp0/D_TdJtXTF1k/s1600/May17th(3).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875443863662594" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_cctuA6MAI/AAAAAAAAAp0/D_TdJtXTF1k/s320/May17th(3).jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccow-mB1I/AAAAAAAAAps/MTaifQT9s-c/s1600/May17th(4).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875358759913298" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccow-mB1I/AAAAAAAAAps/MTaifQT9s-c/s320/May17th(4).jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_cckOtTfsI/AAAAAAAAApk/ot4_NrS_yFg/s1600/May17th(5).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875280841113282" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_cckOtTfsI/AAAAAAAAApk/ot4_NrS_yFg/s320/May17th(5).jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccfNHl0-I/AAAAAAAAApc/YILgvPTZzKM/s1600/May17th(6).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875194515149794" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccfNHl0-I/AAAAAAAAApc/YILgvPTZzKM/s320/May17th(6).jpg" /></a> Wednesday May 19th, 2010</div><div>Graduation Rehearsal<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccX3cZNII/AAAAAAAAApU/ISnQStDgTvU/s1600/May19th(1).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473875068437738626" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccX3cZNII/AAAAAAAAApU/ISnQStDgTvU/s320/May19th(1).jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccTya2TwI/AAAAAAAAApM/MFDfMOFWR1Q/s1600/IMG_7168resize.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473874998369603330" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccTya2TwI/AAAAAAAAApM/MFDfMOFWR1Q/s320/IMG_7168resize.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccPk3nfMI/AAAAAAAAApE/XIbeXsHKZSg/s1600/IMG_7169resize.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473874926012693698" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_ccPk3nfMI/AAAAAAAAApE/XIbeXsHKZSg/s320/IMG_7169resize.jpg" /></a><br />Thursday May 20th, 2010</div><div>Isaac and Daddy shaving. I asked her what she would like to do for a craft this week. She thought for a minute and then said 'How about we take a bunch of stuff that we don't need any more, like boxes, and make a city out of them?' Seriously? Wow...I wasn't expecting such a great suggestion! So, that's what we did...<br /><br />Here is what you will need:<br /><p><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z29_I0lMI/AAAAAAAAAmg/y9vdStgMbHY/s1600/IMG_7146.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473693204407948482" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z29_I0lMI/AAAAAAAAAmg/y9vdStgMbHY/s320/IMG_7146.JPG" /></a> -A good sized cardboard box</p><p>-Some smaller boxes or pieces of cardboard (raid your recycling bin!)</p><p>-Construction Paper</p><p>-Whatever else you have for random crafting items - yarn, pipe cleaners, beads...whatever</p><p>-Paint</p><p>-Paintbrushes</p><p>-Glue</p><p>Pre-Project Prep:</p><p>-Gather all your supplies</p><p>-Line the table with newspapers and put a smock on your little one(s)</p><p>You're ready to go...</p><p>Really, anything goes here...create your city as you wish! But, here is what we did:</p><p>1. We lined the inside of the box with construction paper. Green for the bottom, blue for the remaining sides and top.</p><p><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z26AfoS5I/AAAAAAAAAmY/tW7S9MzRTTc/s1600/IMG_7147.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473693136052571026" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z26AfoS5I/AAAAAAAAAmY/tW7S9MzRTTc/s320/IMG_7147.JPG" /></a> 2. Have your child paint some details on the construction paper. Ryleigh chose to make a road, a pond with Canadian Geese in it, a sun in the sky, and a goose flying in the sky. She later added painted cars to the road.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z22-a8n_I/AAAAAAAAAmQ/OPFI5arnx8I/s1600/IMG_7148.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473693083956453362" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z22-a8n_I/AAAAAAAAAmQ/OPFI5arnx8I/s320/IMG_7148.JPG" /></a></p><div><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2zcs7ULI/AAAAAAAAAmI/DJJHvz3r8vE/s1600/IMG_7149.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473693023365451954" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2zcs7ULI/AAAAAAAAAmI/DJJHvz3r8vE/s320/IMG_7149.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2u2xPC6I/AAAAAAAAAmA/lZPmiE-fd-Q/s1600/IMG_7150.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473692944463498146" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2u2xPC6I/AAAAAAAAAmA/lZPmiE-fd-Q/s320/IMG_7150.JPG" /></a> 3. Take your small cardboard boxes and/or pieces and make houses, buildings, and other structures out of them. </div><div>4. Have the child paint them.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2rMzWkPI/AAAAAAAAAl4/IZQqXOOy81w/s1600/IMG_7151.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473692881658482930" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2rMzWkPI/AAAAAAAAAl4/IZQqXOOy81w/s320/IMG_7151.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2nwzwLmI/AAAAAAAAAlw/yai3AacJCOo/s1600/IMG_7152.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473692822604361314" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2nwzwLmI/AAAAAAAAAlw/yai3AacJCOo/s320/IMG_7152.JPG" /></a> We made trees by taking a toilet paper roll and cutting it in half. Ryleigh painted it brown and then I glued some green yarn to to tops. Here is our city:</div><div><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473692754285422530" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_Z2jyTP58I/AAAAAAAAAlo/JNrnoPCvLPs/s320/IMG_7153.JPG" /><br /><div>Older kids would have a great time getting into more detail with this project. You'll notice that Isaac was missing for this project. As soon as Ryleigh told me her craft idea, I knew it would be too involved for Isaac, so we did it while he was napping. Ryleigh had a great time with this project and I think it would be great for pre-school and grade school children! You can easily adjust the project to the child's age and/or abilities. Have fun!</div></div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-17152267267358125212010-05-20T19:48:00.011-04:002010-05-20T20:27:40.643-04:00My Top-Secret Sewing Project<div>Yes, I know its Thursday, and my Kids Craft Thursday post will be coming up (although, I'm not gonna lie...it might not be until tomorrow). But, I have an extra post for today. Remember that top-secret sewing project that I was working on for so long and couldn't share with you???? Well, the gift has been given, so now I would like to present to you....<br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div>My very FIRST EVER....</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><div>QUILT!!!</div><br /><div>And not only is it a quilt (a big enough accomplishment on its own), but its a memory quilt which was an even bigger undertaking (I will explain why). But, without further adieu...Here it is:</div><br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 270px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473505019161683522" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_XL0KdzJkI/AAAAAAAAAkg/F9DKDziF0xo/s320/IMG_7163.JPG" /><br />I really started working on the idea of this quilt back in January. I knew I wanted to do something special as an end-of-the-year teacher appreciation gift for Ryleigh's very beloved teacher, Miss Elaine. She's been a huge part of Ryleigh's life over the past 2 years and now that Ryleigh will be moving on to 'big kid' school, I wanted Miss Elaine to have something to always remember the 'Class of 2010' - afterall, we'll never forget her! So, I started searching for teacher appreciation gifts and came across a memory quilt that was made for a teacher. The one I saw was made up of drawings made by the children. Immediately I knew I wanted to make a memory quilt! But, how???? I don't have access to these children...I don't know their parents...and due to confidentiality issues, Miss Elaine couldn't not give me the parents' contact info (trust me - I tried)...not to mention that I've never completed a quilt before! So, I ended up writing a letter, sealing them in envelopes, and giving them to Miss Elaine (hoping she wouldn't read them!) and asking her to distribute them to the class. I had no idea how this would turn out...would anyone even respond? Would they think I was some weirdo trying to get pics of their children? Then I had the task of trying to come up with a layout/pattern - all without knowing who would participate and who wouldn't. It turns out that most of the parents did send me a photo of their child and a couple did drawings to include as well. But, there were a few that I didn't hear from AT ALL. Not a 'that's a great idea, but I don't want to participate', NOTHING. So now what??? Miss Jennie to the rescue!!! Miss Jennie was the class helper this year and she responded right away by calling me and offering to take pictures of the children in school. PERFECT! So, after a couple of weeks of Miss Jennie bringing her camera to class, I had a photo of each child along with a bunch of others of them playing, doing crafts, etc. The only downfall of this was that Miss Jennie had a not-so-great camera at the time and the photos were either very dark or very bright and blurry. Now, I consider myself to be crafty at a lot of things...photo editing is not one of them! I spent a ton of time working in Photoshop trying to improve the images so that they would look okay when printed on fabric squares. That was actually the hardest part of the whole process. Then I just started piecing it all together. And this is the final result. I'm pretty happy with it. Its not perfect, by any means...but, it was made with a lot of love and I'm sure she'll treasure it for years to come. A big huge super duper thank you to Miss Jennie! Without her, this quilt would not have been possible! And thank you to Miss Elaine for putting up with my child for 2 years! ;-) </p><br /><p>Some more photos of the quilt...<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473510023662937746" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_XQXdr4JpI/AAAAAAAAAkw/Nrbq9C40Uew/s320/IMG_7164.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473510107901121458" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_XQcXf007I/AAAAAAAAAk4/ZhNqgRpjzJ8/s320/IMG_7165.JPG" /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473510174198972978" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_XQgOedwjI/AAAAAAAAAlA/499YsB7mvPs/s320/IMG_7166.JPG" /> <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473513111275391010" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_XTLL8DSCI/AAAAAAAAAlg/IqzpdlE_U7A/s320/IMG_7167.JPG" /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473510406139973282" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_XQtuhgjqI/AAAAAAAAAlY/df_SI0f5uDw/s320/IMG_6973.JPG" /></p></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-68303315309122336542010-05-19T10:48:00.009-04:002010-05-19T13:43:54.866-04:00Whatcha Crafting WednesdayWell, I did a little better this week. Let's review the goals that I set last week:<br />1. Make 3 Birthday Cards<br /><div><div><div><div>2. Finish the Owl Earflap Hat</div><div>3. Make a summer dress for ME<br /></div><div>And lets take a look at how I did...</div><div>Here is one of the birthday cards. This one is for a friend's little girl, Chloe:</div><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 302px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472994695817527330" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_P7rb3NACI/AAAAAAAAAjw/f2OXiOwW8aQ/s320/IMG_7130.JPG" />And while I was concentrating on Chloe's birthday, I remembered that I had some Disney Princesses fabric in my drawer. Chloe loves princesses right now, just visited Cinderella's castle, and was having a princess themed party. So, I whipped up this cute little summer dress/top to go with the Princess Barbie that we got her:</p><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 203px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472995457897242370" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_P8Xy1KnwI/AAAAAAAAAj4/0DhBtJWRGg8/s320/IMG_7131.JPG" /></p><div>And here is another birthday card - this one is for my brother, Brian. His birthday is TODAY, actually. Happy Birthday, Brian! It is also his daughter's birthday today...you may remember the card from last week. Happy Birthday, Taylor!<br /></div><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 315px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472996241983541874" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_P9Fbx6EnI/AAAAAAAAAkA/y_WgrnjpAxk/s320/IMG_7128.JPG" />And the final card is for my nephew, Jacob. His birthday isn't for a couple more weeks. I'm pretty proud of myself that I got this one done early! :)</div><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 313px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473035815288523250" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S_QhE51DSfI/AAAAAAAAAkI/T9cODgQLOFE/s320/IMG_7142.JPG" /></div></div></div><br /><p>I also finished Andrea's <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/47268509/owl-earflap-hat-pattern?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_query=owl+earflap+hat&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title">Owl Earflap Hat</a>! I'm going to put it first on my list this time...maybe then I will actually get it done! I'm also going to set small goals for myself this week. I've got a lot going on...Ryleigh is graduating from pre-school tomorrow, I've got my first ever 5K race coming up in a couple of weeks, and I just started a Tastefully Simple business. So, I've got a lot on my plate right now and I'm not sure how much crafting I will get done. So, here are my goals for the next week:</p><p>1. Make a Summer Dress for ME</p><p>2. Start working on Father's Day Cards</p><p>3. Figure out what knitting/crochet project I'd like to work on next</p><p>Happy Crafting Everyone!</p><p>OH...and you should head on over to <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=7408">Sew Mama Sew</a>! They're having a huge giveaway day right now. A bunch of different blogs are offering free handmade items, and/or supplies! I hope to participate next year. But, for this year, I'm just entering in all the contests! You should too!</p>Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-5559141213477339702010-05-17T09:24:00.002-04:002010-05-17T09:34:45.434-04:00Monday Mommyhood Madness - Last Day of SchoolToday is Ryleigh's last day of pre-school. I can't believe it! Where did my baby girl go??? The last school year has just flown by and I'm beginning to understand how quickly the coming years will fly by as well. Kinda sad that my baby and toddler years are over , but I'm looking forward to what's ahead...school concerts, helping with homework, sporting events....time to MYSELF. She'll be starting full-day Kindergarten in the fall. She had her screening on Friday and she absolutely LOVED it. She did wonderfully...scoring 26 out of 27 on 'Concepts' and I believe it was 21 out of 24 on 'Language'. Yeah, okay, so she failed at catching a bean bag, but how important is that, really??? And most importantly, she is SO looking forward to going to 'big kid' school and riding on the school bus. She literally can not wait. And I must say, I'm looking forward to it as well! She is SO ready!!! She has spent the past two school years with Miss Elaine and she has enjoyed it thoroughly. She's always very eager to learn and I have no doubt that she'll excel in Kindergarten. The big question is...what am I going to do with her until then?????? It just might be a long summer. lol Stay tuned for photos from the big graduation ceremony on Thursday! Congrats Ryleigh on completing your second and final year of pre-school! And here begins a new chapter....Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10015644034002254380noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679030152147492789.post-75243126708892022342010-05-14T12:09:00.007-04:002010-05-14T12:25:13.553-04:00The Week in Photos - 5/7/10 - 5/14/10Unlike last week where I took an abundance of pictures, this week I didn't take many at all. :(<br /><br />Sunday May 9th, 2010<br />Isaac and Josh planting peas<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S-14aOC82RI/AAAAAAAAAjI/ym38TtFHptk/s1600/May9th(1).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471161514167425298" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s6Me2-rxhF0/S-14aOC82RI/AAAAAAAAAjI/ym38TtFHptk/s320/May9th(1).jpg" /></a><br />Monday May 10th, 2010<br />I was following this truck and noticed what I thought were supposed to be testicles hanging from the bumper.
